hot. muggy. crabby people. weird flying beetles.
16 hours of work. a bumpy green gator.
and a few other fun but not to be mentioned items.
but, all very much worth it…
to celebrate 235 years of freedom yesterday – july 4, 2011 – bless the USA!

fabulous! even with the dreary weather (cloudy, rain, sun, rain, sun, hail, sun).
plus my bright yellow hunter rain boots came in very handy!
and i got a picture with a pseudo squirrel.
a great saturday with my mom. oh how i love her.

oh, and by the way, did you think we’d miss a stop at a cupcake shop? no way!
sprinkles was the requested item from west virginia – luck them!

one word. jodi.
my dear, very dear friend jodi never ceases to amaze me, entertain me, humor me, and love me (i have proof – see below).
friday night after a long day at work (government shut down preparations and measles cases), i was ready to go home.
my original plans had fallen through because of my above said work. boo. so i made my usual car ride home phone calls (yes, with an ear piece). there was much to discuss given our mutual friend adam just got engaged, my dating life and other stories not to be shared (wink, wink).
jodi and her husband tj were headed to a movie and jodi in her fun loving spirit told me to join them. i knew if i went home i’d crash out and not leave my bed. thus became a night of entertainment.
i met up with them at the carolina kitchen in upper marlboro, md. it was a drive but for some seriously, good souther food. holy cow.
i was so full it was painful. honestly, i haven’t eaten that well in a while. i had the ribs, yams, and mac-n-cheese. not healthy at all but so amazing.
the waitress was the best i’ve ever encountered, they did a fabulous birthday song (never seen one like that!) and the diet coke was very tasty. jodi concurred.
then, i got in on their special couples messages and was left one of my own. see she does love me.
after we ate, we made a hop, skip and jump next door to see the new movie unknown with liam neeson.
i enjoy action packed movies on the big screen. girlie flicks not so much but car chases are great with a screen the size of texas. this movie was full of car chases, scenes that made you jump, or at least me…see, another reason why i love jodi…she never moves an inch in the theater, i shift around all the time but not her. seriously, she didn’t move at all…sat straight with her collar up to avoid nastiness and never even took her eyes off the screen. to me that is magical. i’m like the 5 year old kid and she’s the adult when it comes to move watching!
back to the movie…it was a good plot line and kept you guessing - january jones wasn’t terrible so that was a plus. made me miss mad men though. don draper. *sigh*
worth the $10 ticket and so worth the company!
oh and one last reason why i love jodi…she is a sucker for stuff like this.
and NO she is not bleeding from the mouth. she is laughing and trying to make herself taller by standing on her tip toes to get her face into the hole! if only you could have heard the laughter.
xoxo

saturday we hit the day running, with a 5-mile jog through arlington (yeah, for 1/2 marathon training)!
went on to dinner later in evening with the crew at old ebbitt’s grill.
great company with patti & phil; the newly engaged couple.
russell, carey, sara and matt also joined us.
we made it to sunday, with church, the laker’s game, and a fun dinner at patti’s.
sad to see you go janie! can’t wait until the cherry blossom festival!

so great to see janie – in from utah for a quick trip around dc.
our weekend consisted of yummy dinners and laughs of course.
we started off on friday night in georgetown…
fantabulous cupcakes (thanks matt) from baked & wired.
matt sure does know me – go figure we just met!
the first dinner of the weekend - paolo’s ristorante in georgetown.
the server used an ipad to show the desserts! but we had our own…
yes, we did eat them all. i will claim 3/4 of the red velvet and 1/4 of the texas sheet cake.
the rest will be attributed to the nameless.
matt the famous tour guide took us to see some non-traditional sites across the city.
this was our stop at the national japanese-american memorial.

we also stopped at the canadian embassy’s echo chamber, the victims of communism memorial,
the gandhi memorial, and spotted some seriously cool embassy’s on embassy row.
onto day two of the trip…
