aren’t we all…

messed up?
marla and i think so after our lengthy conversation last night.

at least in some way.
it’s impossibly to be even to the slightest degree.
anyone who says they are perfect is officially crazy.
because obviously we’re not perfect nor can we ever be.

some days it’s just a matter of how messed up.
and about what…work, relationships, family, your health.

we find ourselves scared to admit certain thing about our “messiness”
even when – if we only knew – how many other  people around us
were just as jacked up.

happy monday to all my messed up friends.
so when the computer crashes
or the keyboard letters stick
we can relieve ourselves
of our own freakish messed up faults.

xoxo

what’s a meme?

obviously i’m a fan of social media.

but i must admit i had no idea what a meme was when reading a recent friend’s blog.
did a little research – read memes high and low.
discovered there are a LOT of them out there -
some clearly not for me and others that are highly entertaining.

but after a recent phone call with marla
i thought what a better idea than starting a meme based on her idea of a new little challenge…
to answer the question:

name one great thing that happened today and one thing that stunk.

clearly, the one that stunk was easy – the one positive/great thing took me some time.
i soon realized as i pondered (yes, i really did) the rest of the night that it’s so easy to focus on the negatives and get stuck there…
it can lead into the next day and i know i’ve had to remind myself to start the day fresh
at least a few times this week (and it’s only wednesday!)

this led me to challenge myself and those who read my blog to weekly answer those three (3) little questions.

so starting today (and every week) – it’s wednesday and no better day -
i will be asking and answering – hoping you will too – the following questions…
post a comment in my comments section, include a link to your blog, i’ll follow you and you keep following me!
be sure to answer these questions then on your blog.

1. what is one positive thing that happened today?
rocked a special little meeting today.

2. what is one stinking thing that happened today?
wished i had gone to bed earlier so i was so freaking tired all day.

3. what do you hope for tomorrow?
to get my run in for the week.

my buddies.

as many of you know i’m a latter-day saint, aka mormon.
i love the doctrine of the church and am grateful everyday for the blessings i’ve had in my life.

i wasn’t raised lds but i decided as an adult -
after much investigation, thought, reading, prayer and consultation
with the important people in my life that this was and is the right decision for me.

i’m not a big talker/preacher about religion.
it doesn’t mean i don’t believe or i’m not faithful, i’m just not an in your face kind of person when it comes to this area…
i was taught growing up that money, politics and religion are things you don’t talk about with just anyone.

well, i’m now in dc and i can’t avoid politics, even if i tried…
money, i don’t have enough of it to even make it a worthwhile conversation…
religion, well, i’d be happy to have a conversation with you but this is the internet that can be challenging
since it’s hard to sum up or capture how i feel, think or what i believe in a little old blog post.

i thought about some of the people i know, friends, who’ve changed my life.

i love all of these people. they make me laugh, they taught me, opened their homes to me…
i have such great memories with them all.
i couldn’t have been asked for better people in my life. each day is richer than the next because of them.

i’m grateful that they have sharing their stories with me and with the world.
i thought you might want to hear from them…

alias, how i miss you!

marla, jenny and i were just discussing our love of alias.
i got hooked after my master’s program finished when i watched two seasons in a week’s time!
i wasn’t crazy, i was just house sitting for a week and had some spare time – some very happy time.

sigh…it was a show that you just loved. still love. minus the last season which was a bit hokey. boo.
yet, i’m still weak in the knees for vartan and tippin.
i knew i should have kept my mrs. vartan volley ball jersey.

thanks to bradley cooper being so yummy and french speaking! but his hair sucks here…

go figure we clearly are not the only ones thinking this way – love you i hate green beans!

Bachelor Recap:

When Life Hands You a Dot, Dot, Dot |

ihategreenbeans.com – The blog of Lincee Ray

Ashley wasn’t the only one who took a beating last night, am I right? Among the cobbled together flash mob, anticlimactic Great Reveal, excruciating Bachelorette roast, charm-a-la-douche and the magical appearance of an indiscriminate pair of flannel pajama bottoms, I think ABC should apologize to the viewing audience for subjecting us to such blatant disregard of Ashley’s raw emotional state while wasting our valuable time with b-roll packages of an arrogant Stepford Bachelor.

We demand you make it up to us by bringing back your previously cancelled hit show Alias. Or reruns of the hit show Alias. Or a show that dominantly features Michael Vaughn and Will Tippin. Or just Will Tippin.

Oh Will. I know you’re in the witness protection program, and I’m okay with that. But let’s not be sad and instead, look forward to our next meeting. Consider it my own personal dot, dot, dot, to you.

Wow. One paragraph in and I’m already on a tangent. It’s going to be a brutal recap ladies and gentlemen. Let’s go ahead and get it over with so we can return to our real job of writing newsletters for oil companies, churning out a few technical papers and Googling Bradley Cooper speaking fluent French or whatever it is that you do. Join me won’t you…

i believe their may be some alias episodes downloaded from iTunes tonight!

Jan 12

wrapping up.

after a late night, we got some much needed rest and then geared up for a looong day walking the city.

we walked and walked and walked. we figured we talked abut 12 miles across the district – covering eastern market and the side streets…

capitol hill (the library of congress was closed!), the national mall…

a pedicab trip to the white house…

and the national zoo.

we also got to get some fantastic pizza at 2amy’s pizza.

on sunday, we laid low, going to church, playing some cribbage, watching a few movies all after a yummy lunch at busboys & poets.

i was sad to see kaela leave. she is such a great friend and someone i know i can always count on. it’s such a blessing to be surrounded by friends that love you.

marla was supposed to arrive tonight but the snow canceled her plane! boo. otherwise she and i would have been hitting the town with more fun.

until next time! xoxox
