a story of friendship…

laughs…arguments…life choices…diverging paths…acceptance…honesty…raw emotion…standing by…
tough love…coming back…stories…dreams…picking up and carrying on…tricks and treats.

there are films that clearly remind you of growing up
college days – come and gone
playing hard and hardly playing
working and working more
heartache and heartfelt blessings
loss and growth
and of course lots of laughs.

and then of course there is the real thing.

the thing that can get you through the day, the week or even the month.
the ones that are your sisters, brothers, and confidants.
they know.

i’m so blessed to have friends that have given me so much.
xoxo

Jan 12

wrapping up.

after a late night, we got some much needed rest and then geared up for a looong day walking the city.

we walked and walked and walked. we figured we talked abut 12 miles across the district – covering eastern market and the side streets…

capitol hill (the library of congress was closed!), the national mall…

a pedicab trip to the white house…

and the national zoo.

we also got to get some fantastic pizza at 2amy’s pizza.

on sunday, we laid low, going to church, playing some cribbage, watching a few movies all after a yummy lunch at busboys & poets.

i was sad to see kaela leave. she is such a great friend and someone i know i can always count on. it’s such a blessing to be surrounded by friends that love you.

marla was supposed to arrive tonight but the snow canceled her plane! boo. otherwise she and i would have been hitting the town with more fun.

until next time! xoxox

nye 2010…2011.

day two of kaela’s visit.

after a good sleep, we went to mount vernon’s christmas tour. i just love it there, so much history and so much to see. bummer there was no snow!

after hitting george and martha’s old homestead, we headed back to my place to rest up for the fairfax 4miler.

we made our way to fairfax in the mild december weather! the course was through george mason’s campus – up and down a few too many hills for my preference. i really enjoyed kicking off the new year with a run.

after coming home and showering, we made our way to old town alexandria with the girls. o’connell’s in alexandria was a great place to ring in 2011. the bouncer was quite entertaining as were a few of the patrons in attendance.

off to bed and on to day three. xoxo

hitting the town.

kaela hit dc late on the 29th. i grabbed her and her impressive tiny suitcase up at bwi and drove home to get some yummy wings at buffalo wild wings.

thursday, i headed off to work – boo! but we didn’t waste any time seeing the sights once i left.

we headed to the us botanic gardens‘ christmas display. so beautiful. i was super impressed with all the trains.

after we headed across the street to the capitol to check out the christmas tree and get some great evening shots.

we then decided to fill our tummies at birch and barley. we ate fried mac and cheese and split the rockin’ grilled cheese.

then hopped down the street to ackc cocoa gallery (next to the studio theater) for the best hot chocolate in dc!
i had the marilyn – holy yummy!!!

and because we were already on a sugar high we drove over to crumbs cupcakes for dessert on our way to dc temple’s christmas lights…but i won’t tell you how many we tested!

we did a quick pit stop at politics and prose before we ended the night with a trip to dc temple’s christmas lights in maryland. it really was beautiful. i so loved all the different christmas trees; especially the sheep – baaaa.

what a great day! can’t wait to tell you about the rest of the weekend. xoxo

road trip.

kaela and i set off for dc last week – driving cross-country to my new place, new job, closer to family.

along the way we kept a little “record” of our adventure…

1 bump-it (on a girl’s head!).
1 pit stop at pep boys to fix the car alignment.
1 very LARGE hedwig-like owl attacked the car.
1 drink left on top of the car (i think only once, is a miracle).
1 road closure – a 20 mile detour.
1 speeding ticket – thanks wyoming.
9 skunks.
100+ buffalo, mull deer, big horn sheep, and wild turkeys. [video to come]
1 chilled-out black cat.

5 ups drivers.
14 temples.

3 hotels.
2 friend’s houses.
7 giant letters on the side of a hill/mountain (Y, G, B, B, BR, U, L).
2 towns spelled out on the side of a hill/mountain.
2 or 3 random sights.

15 states.
AND
an insane amount of talk radio news and commercials…all of which made up our 2952.3 mile trip.

max, oh max, you crazy cat.

my cat max is nuts, insane, and a pretty good companion when he’s not running though the house.

kaela’s been staying with me before she leaves for IN. she and max are becoming friends…today she spoiled him and gave him a string to play with.

oh how cats are easily entertained.

needless to say max in his favorite position – spread eagle – was snuggling with the string.

kaela and i both had a good laugh this dreary sunday morning…
