polar plunge!

i am fortunate to know a special little boy and a very special kido who happens not to be so little any more (teenager now!). both are dear to my heart, have made a significant impact on my life and taught me more than they will ever know.

i’m not a person that usually asks anyone to ask for dollars…but this year i decided to participate in the special olympics polar plunge on february 23 here in green bay, so i need your help!

i’m sure some of you would enjoy seeing me freeze my tush off;) but more importantly, the proceeds go directly to the special olympics and your donations support competition and training in 18 sports for nearly 10,000 athletes.

my goal is to raise any where from $350 to $1000. if you would like to contribute in any amount i’d be grateful but most importantly the special olympics who supports, advocates and provides services to so many will be blessed.

by following this link and [clicking here] you can visit my personal web page and help me in my efforts to support special olympics wisconsin, Inc.

thanks in advance for considering supporting the special olympics and me.

if you’d like to check out the website please feel free!

p.s. on a side note, you buffalo wild wing fans may want to know they are a significant corporate sponsor this year. yummy!!

not so much fun.

yesterday was more than slightly unpleasant.

i have three bulging discs in my neck (c3-c6). mostly typical nerve pain…tolerable given my previous spinal fusion in 2002 at l5-s1.

yesterday, was not the case.
the 31st had an epidural steroid injection with sedation that didn’t work – annoying.
since then i’ve gotten worse.

back to yesterday…pain like never before.

a migraine at least a 1,000 times anything i’ve ever experienced.
eye lid drooping.
flipping my words.
shooting neck pain.
pain in my temple & eye – I would have rather had my eye poked out.

so, i didn’t want to be a baby and thought i was ok until about mid-am when i felt like dying. and had to finally fess up i was miserable beyond words.

this was no drama fest.

got an emergent appointment.
boss took me over and then…
while sitting in up-right in a chair – yes you heard that right!
and after multiple tests…
got 7 shots into my neck, head and spine.

i do not recommend this.
2 lidocaine injections – my head eventually felt like your mouth after getting a cavity filled. no lie!
3 never blockers.
2 steroid injections.

yup, i cried. i dare you not to.

i think i ended up being more scared because they were all worried that i may have been having a stroke on top of it all because of my head pain or throwing a clot and the “a” word was tossed out.

numbing finally kicked in.
got some narcs that didn’t do squat.
started oral steroids.

ice is my friend as i’ve had to keep it on my neck since then – all day today included.

mri and blood work is scheduled next.
then a 2nd epidural next week. yuck.

oh, and if you didn’t guess i’m a bit crabby.

but on the up side my super fabulous bf took care of me all night.
my lovely boss drive me home.
my co-workers brought my car back to my house.
i am glad to know people really care.

here’s to an up-swing.

she can play.

i love watching jas play bball.
she’s getting so tall and really learning how to move the ball around.
i’m also partial to her defensive style.

can’t wait until the next game!

Nov 27

so it’s been a few weeks…

and i’ve been a bit of a slacker.
works been a bit crazy,
my social life picked up,
throw thanksgiving in there,
and there you have my explanation.

so let’s summarize just for kicks and giggles…

lela (the new cat) and max (the old cat) are becoming fast friends.
lela is a HUGE snuggler – just ask anyone who has stopped by.

baby thomas turned 1! and his soon to be little brother or sister was announced – with a pending birthday on may 26th (really the 29th but i’m willing jodi to go sooner).

baby rebecca was born a day before baby thomas turned 1 – close call for adam and abby.

watched jasmine play some ball in ptown.

my spin bike is the bomb and now thanks to troy i have shelves – it just took 2 months.
including dropping 15#s in the last two weeks.

i changed my hair color – shocker.
thank you haven.

i found a few new nail polish colors – yea, fun! go essie.
yes, that is my foot – even bigger shocker.

i’ve come to learn 40 is the new 20 and will be helping someone celebrate that 4-0 soon.
oh, and if you didn’t read sunday’s post - mom turned the big 6-0!

had lots of fun the last few weekends with good friends…
with a little singing & dancing to 80′s music too.

even took in a few movies.
of course, breaking dawn part ii – best one yet. honest.
then lincoln – great historical flick but don’t see it when you’re tired or freezing cold.

and lastly, a full fledged encounter with domestic bliss -
my washer malfunctioning and overflowing while i slept.
the upside – i get to do my wash all over again with my purex crystals.

not to mention that i’m officially smitten with mgl and all their goodies.
can’t wait for the treadmill.

p.s. i did get this out of my car and into my house all by myself. yea, me.

omg, did that hurt.

it’s my own fault.

the house needs to be cleaned…
i should not be walking around in the dark…
i need to pick up after the cat knocks his “tools” off the table.

so i guess injuring my foot on the “furgopet”, is mine to own.

feel a little bad?
…can’t walk in heels now
…it hurts like a mother
…and it’s my foot; i hate feet.

Ouch (with a capital O).

my latest and greatest yummies.

i am completely obsessed with kashi’s GOLEAN original cereal.

Staying committed to healthy eating and exercise isn’t easy. That’s why we developed our GOLEAN® cereals, to be an easy part of your commitment to a healthier leaner you.

Kashi® GOLEAN® cereal is a lightly sweetened mix of crunchy fiber twigs, crispy soy protein grahams, and honey-toasted 7 Whole Grains and Sesame Puffs. You’ll feel great knowing that you are treating yourself right and enjoying it.

GOLEAN cereal helps you stay satisfied all morning* with more than twice the protein and fiber of the average of other cereals.** Just one serving supplies 40% of your daily fiber needs and 20% of your daily protein needs.

  • 13g Protein
  • 10g fiber
  • Low in Fat—1g
  • 8g of whole grains

i have a cup of the cereal in the morning with pomegranate greek yogurt – depending on what the grocery store has, i buy either chobani non-fat pomegranate or yoplait greek non-fat cherry/pomegranate yogurt. i do prefer the yoplait (they are not endorsing me) – i think it’s the pom seats in the bottom to give a bit more crunch!

this is a staple for your health diet (in my opinion and keeps me full until lunch). i often switch between this and the glucerna shakes i have blogged about previously.

clearly i still can’t see.

so mkb introduced me coastal glasses and contacts.
they are cheap and have a zillion different styles. since i can’t wear my contacts very much anymore – this is perfect for me, as it’s like shoes and purses, i get bored easily, so switching my glasses daily is great.

when i went home a few weeks ago, i had my black cat eye frames on (baby thomas happens to like these) – jasmine thought i looked funny. now that i think of it, baby thomas probably does too but his lack of communication skills prevents him from being honest.

i was cold, not hiding my face.

no big deal right?

well, we were at dinner and jasmine asked me if i knew i had a times sign on the front left corner of my frames…

and that there was a division sign on the other side of my frames.

she giggled and started to laugh. she then told me that on each side of the frame had an equals sign!
i told her she was lying. she giggled some more which then proceeded to get my brother going in making fun of me.

apparently, i’m not to observant when it comes to my glasses which is ironic bc i need to see.
